
Gonzaga Places 15th in Bandon

BANDON, Ore. â€" The Gonzaga men's golf team finished in 15th place at 43-over par (907) at the eighth annual Bandon Dunes Championship. Ryan Gaske led the Zags with a five-over (221) finish in a tie for 36th on the Old MacDonald Course at the Bandon Dunes Resort Tuesday.
Gaske made nine pars and a pair of birdies in the third and final round. He carded a 77 (+5) in Round 3.
Nick Nolan and David Ganz finished in tied for 51st and 56th. Nolan had a 2.92 average on the course's Par-3 holes in the tournament, going one-under on the holes through all three rounds. He made 13 pars and two birdies Tuesday. Ganz was also five-over (77) in the final round. He made 10 pars and three birdies in the third round.
Playing as individuals, Tyler Munetake (T66th) and Ben DuBois (T73rd) were 13-over (229) and 15-over (231). Munetake had the lowest round of the day for the Bulldogs at 76 (+4), while DuBois was seven-over (79). Munetake made 12 pars in the final round and was even-par on the front-nine.
Angus Montgomery was 88th at 24-over (240) and Chris Mogg tied for 89th at 25-over (241). Montgomery was six-over (78) in the third round, while Mogg was 11-over (83).
"A little bit of everything today; too many bogies, a number of doubles and others, poor putting and game mismanagement," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Just didn't do much well. However, they did stay fully vested from what I observed and that will help us down the road."
As a team, Gonzaga totaled a 307 (+19) in the final round. The Zags had 145 pars and 34 birdies in the three-day event.
Oregon cruised to the team title, finishing at 28-under (836), 21 strokes ahead of second-place Texas Tech. Oregon totaled a 276 (-12) in Round 3. Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech was two-under (70) the final round and finished the tournament at 10-under (206). Two Oregon golfers were eight-under (208).
"The team will now head off for spring break and we'll work hard to improve in a number of areas when they return next week.
"I want to say a huge thank you to Bandon Dunes Resort for their amazing support of this event along with all of the volunteers and rules officials who come down to play a major role in the success of this event," Gray said.
Gonzaga travels to Eugene, Ore., for the Duck Invitational on March 27-28. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Eugene Country Club and have live scoring on Golfstats.com.
