HONOLULU-The Gonzaga University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday, but not without a fight as the Zags fell 4-3 in Gonzaga's first neutral-site dual of the season.

The match wasn't decided until the final singles match, a three-setter on court three between Graciela Rosas of Gonzaga and Galina Bykova of Fresno State. Rosas took the first set by a 0-6 scoreline, but Bykova rallied in the second 7-5, forcing the deciding third frame. Bykova won that extra period 6-3 to clinch the dual for Fresno State.

Before that, Gonzaga had tied the match at 3-all despite losing the doubles point to begin the day. At No. 1 doubles, Nevada Apollo and Domonique Garley picked up in impressive 6-1 win over Fresno State's Georgia Lawson and Emma Wilson, but Fresno State took the final two pairs matches for the 1-0 dual lead.

Once singles play started, Kate Ketels and Sophie Whittle struck quickly to put the Zags up 2-1. Ketels beat Ndindi Ndunda on court five 6-2, 6-0, for her 15th win of the season, and Whittle downed Wilson in straight 6-1 sets. It was the sophomore's fifth dual win.

Fresno State then re-took the lead with wins on court four and court one, but Garley tied the dual once more with a win on court six. She and Lawson played a thrilling three-setter, with Garley winning six games in all three sets. The sophomore prevailed 6-2, 6-7 (3) 6-4 for her second three-set victory of the year.

With the loss, the Zags fell to 7-1 on the year and snapped their seven-game win streak to begin the season. That had been the best start to a dual season in program history. They look to rebound on Saturday, March 17, with another neutral site match; this time the Zags will face Cal Poly in Reno, Nevada, at 1:00 p.m.
