SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's soccer put chances on net, but wasn't able to come up with the tying goal in a 1-0 loss to San Diego on Friday night at Luger Field.
The Zags (2-8-2, 0-2-0) hit the post on one occasion in the second half and put pressure on the Toreros, but a goal in the 60
th minute by USD (5-6-2, 1-1-0) was the difference. Gonzaga outshot San Diego 10-9.
Gonzaga put together a pair of good chances in the first half with a shot off the foot of
Mark McEntosh from the top of the box that was punched out by the USD keeper. Just a minute later, GU's ensuing corner from McEntosh found the head of
Frankie Ljucovic, who put it on net, but a USD defender swept it away.
San Diego then grabbed the lead with a goal by its top scorer Miguel Berry for a1-0 lead. That goal came just minutes after a shot by GU's
Denis Kalamar hit the post from the left wing.
Gonzaga will finish its three-game homestand on Sunday at Luger Field when they host Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. Live coverage will be available at GoZags.com.
