SPOKANE, Wash. – After a solid showing against Washington State in last week's season-opening regatta, the Gonzaga men's rowing team faces the Cougars again Saturday.
The Zags make the trip to Wawawai Landing in Pullman for the Head of the Snake. The annual event returns to the Snake River after last year's event was cancelled due to high winds. The event was cancelled for similar reasons in 2011 and 2013.
"It has been a good week of training in the fours and the guys are ready to get after it," GU Head Coach
Dan Gehn said. "WSU will start in front of this week and the guys are excited about racing from behind and trying to run them down."
Last time at the regatta in 2016, the Bulldogs swept the top two races, and their Varsity 8 boat and Second Varsity 8 boat recorded the top two times overall. The Gonzaga Novice 8 boat finished in second place.
At last week's season-opening Head of the Spokane, the Zags' Varsity 8 boat started the day with a five-second win over WSU at 15:40. The second GU Varsity 8 crossed the line at 16:49, eight seconds ahead of the Cougars. Washington State's varsity four boat had a six-second victory over the Bulldogs, finishing at 19:23.
Saturday's first flight begins at 9 a.m., followed by the second at 10:45. Results will be posted following the races on Row2K.
