LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — Gonzaga freshman Quynn Duong fired a bogey-free 67 to lead the women's golf team at the 41st Pat Bradley Invitational, hosted by Florida International in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Playing the par-72 Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, Duong had three birdies in her first five holes, then played nearly flawlessly the rest of the way while notching two more birdies. Her 67 shot her into the tournament lead by one shot with a four-under total through two rounds. The 67 also tied her for the fifth-best score in school history.
Gonzaga shot a 293 (+5) as a team to sit in a tie for seventh overall in the team race. The second round total was seven shots better than the first round 300 from Sunday.
"I am really proud of the fight in this team," head coach Brad Rickel said. "We learned some about the course yesterday, and while the conditions were a bit tougher, we played better. A bogey-free 67 for Quynn is just awesome. She played a great round of golf, and was very determined and focused. She does that again, and she will be tough to beat. I'm very happy with our team attitude and determination. We need to continue it tomorrow to maintain and move up."
Nina Novilla and Francesca Santoni each battled their way to a second-round 75 (+3), while Jessica Mangrobang shot a four-over 76 to round out GU's top four scores. All three are just inside the top 50 overall in the tournament with Novilla in 34th, Mangrobang in 39th and Santoni in 44th.
Gonzaga will wrap up the 54-hole Pat Bradley Invite on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 5 a.m. PT/8 a.m. ET. Links to live scoring are available at GoZags.com.
