Second Varsity 8 comes in 11th place at Head of the American

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's rowing 'A' boat placed third at the 2018 Head of the American Saturday. The annual regatta returned to Lake Natoma at Nimbus Flat State Park.

The Zags' Varsity 8 boat finished the 5,000-meter course at 16:00.5. California's 'B' boat placed first at 15:11.3, while the California 'A' boat was second with a time of 15:20.1.

The Bulldogs' 'B' boat finished in 11^th at 17:04.2. There were 23 boats entered in the Men's Open 8+.

"Great day of racing for us," Gonzaga Head Coach Dan Gehn said. "I thought the Varsity went out and went after it. They had great focus and pace over the whole course. The JV struggled a bit in the head wind in the last 2,000 meters, but did most of their work getting through three or four boats at the beginning."

Gonzaga closes its fall schedule at the Head of the Lake in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 4. The regatta will be held on Lake Union.
