SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga men's soccer suffered a 1-0 loss at home against (rv) Pacific in the regular season finale at Luger Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Gonzaga (2-14-2, 0-7-0) offense created a couple good chances and the defense played solid, but Pacific (11-4-2, 5-2-0) was able to net the game's only goal midway through the second half. Prior to the start of the game, Gonzaga honored its five outgoing players,
Ben Willis,
Austin Giftopoulos,
Denis Kalamar,
Jake Kempf and
Octavio Rivas.
"I'm proud once again of the effort and warrior mentality the guys brought today, they left it all on the field," head coach
Paul Meehan said. "Our seniors will be missed, and I'm thankful for their contributions to the program."
Gonzaga played the Tigers tight in the first half, holding Pacific scoreless on just three shots on goal and eight total shots in the opening frame.
The beginning of the second half was much of the same until Pacific set up a free kick after a GU foul. Andreas Charalambous played a cross in over the defense to the foot of Camden Riley, who put home his ninth goal of the year in the 64
th minute.
Ben Willis collected three saves in the match, and the GU defense held Pacific to just 11 total shots. Gonzaga mustered three shots on goal and nine total shots in the game.
