Series Notes:
- Gonzaga and Portland meet for the 67th time overall and the 33rd time in Portland.
- The Bulldogs are 4-1 against the Pilots under head coach Diane Nelson.
- Gonzaga has won 18 of the last 26 matches. The Bulldogs have strung together several win streaks over the course of the series, but the longest to date was a 13-match win streak from 1991-97.
- The series dates back to 1986 where the two teams met in a neutral site match; the Pilots claimed the first two match wins, but the Bulldogs have dominated the series overall.
- In the last meeting, Portland swept the Zags 3-0 in Spokane. Five Bulldogs had at least three kills, led by Chapin Gray with six. Faith Smith added at team-high 14 assists and seven digs while Peighton De Von added a match-high three aces.
SCOUTING PORTLAND:
- The Pilots are on a four-match skid and post an 18-11 overall record with a 6-11 WCC mark.
- As a team, the Pilots average 12.8 kills per set hitting .244 to go along with 12.2 assists and 1.5 aces per set. Portland also averages 14.3 digs and 2.0 blocks per set.
- Four players average at least two kills per set for the Pilots, led by Reghan Pukis with 3.10 per set hitting .241. Shayla Hoeft adds 2.67 kills per set hitting .303 while Izzy Guzik and Katie Barker add 2.62 and 2.28 kills per set, respectively. Cali Thompson leads the Pilots in assists at 10.62 per set.
- Defensively, Portland is led by Carey Williams with 4.21 digs per set while Barker leads the squad in blocks with 1.09 per set.
- Portland closed nonconference play with an unblemished 12-0 mark and was receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Pepperdine delivered Portland's first loss on the season with a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 20, and the Pilots have struggled to win consistently ever since. Their longest win streak in conference play came Oct. 4 through Oct. 11 with three wins in a row against San Francisco, Santa Clara and Pacific. Each of those matches were sweeps.
ONE DIG TO GO
Senior Faith Smith is currently one dig away from joining the 1,000 digs club. The San Diego, Calif., native has 999 career digs and 2,309 career assists. If she is able to eclipse the 1,000 career digs mark, she will be one of only three Zags to have at least 2,000 assists and 1,000 career digs. Only Erica Cordy (4,010 assists, 1,062 digs) and Tracy McKinney (4,904 assists, 1,010 digs) have at least 2,000 assists and 1,000 digs in program history.
