Quynn Duong fired a two-under 70 to sit in the top 10 and lead the women's golf team to seventh place after the first round of the Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Playing the par-72 Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, Gonzaga sits just eight shots back of the team lead at +3 (291), while Duong's 70 puts her just three shots off the lead. Doung had three birdies and just one bogey on her round.
"It was a good start to the tournament today," head coach
Brad Rickel said. "Having no practice round due to weather and with three of our players seeing a course with Bermuda grass for the first time, I am happy with our score. Quynn [Duong] is playing very solid golf, and I thought the whole team played hard all day. We will look to improve tomorrow after learning a lot today."
Sophomore
Federica Torre and senior
Jessica Mangrobang shot identical one-over 73s on the day to sit in a tie for 29
th overall. Torre had three birdies in her round, while Mangrobang had two.
Rounding out the GU lineup,
Alyssa Nguyen shot a three-over 75, and
Cassie Kim posted a four-over 76.
