SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's golf head coach
Brad Rickel announced the signing of standouts Mary Scott Wolfe and Ivanna Montemayor to National Letters of Intent on Thursday.
"Both of this year's recruits listed Gonzaga as their dream school, and they both come from successful high school programs," Rickel said. "They are great team players and come from supportive families. We are excited for them to come in and make an immediate impact."
Mary Scott Wolfe | Beaverton, Ore. | Jesuit High School
Wolfe, a Beaverton, Ore., native comes to GU from Jesuit High School where she helped her team win state titles in 2018 and 2019. She was named all-state both years and was the team MVP in 2017. Wolfe was the co-medalist at the 2019 Metro League tournament and was also the 2019 Oregon Junior Amateur Champion. She's a two-time IMG Academy Junior World qualifier, a two-time US Girls Junior qualifier and two-time GJAC team member. Academically, Wolfe is a three-year honor roll honoree and member of the National Honor Society.
Wolfe on choosing Gonzaga:
"I chose Gonzaga because I felt like it was a good fit for me both academically and athletically. I loved my visit and I was impressed by the student-athlete services. I am excited to continue my golf career and education at Gonzaga."
Rickel on signing Wolfe:
"Mary Scott is, I believe, the best player coming out of Oregon this year. She is steady and a scrappy competitor, while playing regionally and nationally with success. She attends Jesuit High School in the Pacific Northwest, which makes her a great fit for Gonzaga. We love her passion for GU and know her work ethic on the course and in the classroom will help our program continue thrive."
Ivanna Montemayor | Tijuana, Mexico | Mater Dei High School
Montemayor, a native of Tijuana, Mexico, will come to GU from Mater Dei High School in Chula Vista, Calif. She helped Mater Dei to a state championship in 2018 while earning a runner-up individual finish at the state championships. A three-time all-league member and all-state honoree, she also helped Mater Dei to a runner-up team finish in 2017. Academically, Montemayor is a member of the National Honor Society, Science Academy and Ambassadors for Christ program at Mater Dei.
Montemayor on choosing Gonzaga:
"Ever since I started my college quest during my freshman year, I fell in love with this school. I believed that it was a great academic and athletic opportunity, and a chance to explore new places. But when I finally visited and met the team, I knew that Gonzaga was the place for me. From the beginning of my visit, I felt comfortable and everyone made me feel welcome. I found that over the next four years, I would have a new 'chosen family' with my teammates, coaches, and everyone at Gonzaga. I chose this school because it made me feel like I belonged and that I was at home."
Rickel on signing Montemayor:
"We love Ivanna's enthusiasm and passion. Her attitude is contagious, and we know she will bring a great energy to our team. She has a wealth of regional and international tournament experience. She has shown the ability to go low, and she gives everything she has to each round. She has told us Gonzaga is her dream school from the beginning of recruiting, and we look so forward to her arriving on campus next year."
