THE TIP-OFF
- Gonzaga will look to improve to 9-1 overall on the season Saturday against Texas Southern. With a win, Gonzaga will post an 9-1 start to the season for the second time in program history and the second-straight season.
- Gonzaga broke into the Associated Press Top 25 poll at No. 23 following a 76-70 overtime loss at Stanford on Nov. 17. This week, GU moved up a spot in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the Coaches Poll. GU is now No. 17 in the AP Poll.
- Texas Southern is the only program that Gonzaga has faced out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Bulldogs have faced the Tigers once before back in 1999. Gonzaga won the matchup 74-52 on Dec. 4, 1999 as part of the Southwest Airlines Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- This will mark the eighth time in program history that the Zags have played on Dec. 14. GU carries a 3-4 overall record on this date. It will also be the first time since 2013 that the Zags have suited up on the date.
- Gonzaga currently ranks second in the nation in percent attendance capacity. The Zags average 92.24 percent capacity; that's an average of 5,535 fans that fill McCarthey Athletic Center every game.
- Gonzaga returns two starters and seven letter-winners from last season's squad that claimed the Zags' third consecutive and 15th overall West Coast Conference regular season title.
- In 2018-19, the Bulldogs advanced to their third-straight NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Second Round.

- Texas Southern returns five letter winners from last season's squad that finished 15-15 overall.
- This season, the Tigers welcome nine newcomers to the roster and two redshirts.
- Texas Southern was picked to finish fifth overall in the SWAC this season. Senior Niya Mitchell was selected as both the Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Mitchell was also selected to the Preseason All-SWAC First Team. Last season, Mitchell averaged a double-double with 14.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
- This season, the Tigers are 3-4 through seven games and average 61.7 points and 34.0 rebounds per game while shooting 37.4 percent from the floor. Mitchell leads Texas Southern in scoring at 15.7 points per game; Ciani Cryor is a close second at 15.4 points per outing.
- Mitchell also leads the Tiger in rebounding, hauling in an average of 9.6 rebounds per game. So far this season, Mitchell has recorded three double-doubles (points, rebounds).
- As a squad, Texas Southern averages 13.1 assists per game. Cryor leads the Tigers in that category with 7.4 assists per game.

TOWNSEND NAMED WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time in her career, junior guard Jill Townsend was named the WCC Player of the Week. Townsend led GU to a perfect 2-0 week on the road with wins at Montana State and Washington State. She averaged 15.0 points per game shooting 66.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from long range to go along with 6.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
CHANCES ARE, IT'S GOING IN
Gonzaga leads the league in field goal percentage at 47.7 percent, and four Zags rank in the top 15 in the conference in field goal percentage. Melody Kempton leads the charge, shooting a whopping 58.8 percent from the floor (30-for-51) to rank second in the WCC. Jill Townsend ranks fourth at 56.5 percent, Katie Campbell tied for 11th at an even 50 percent while LeeAnne Wirth ranks 15th shooting 48.4 percent from the floor.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE, PLEASE
LeeAnne Wirth notched her second career double-double and the second for the Zags this season Dec. 8 at Washington State. The junior forward finished with a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Melody Kempton is the only other Zag to notch a double-double this season; the sophomore forward scored 12 points and hauled in 10 rebounds at Stanford on Nov. 17.
