Second Varsity Eight shines in first official spring regatta

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team battled Oregon State, Washington State, Loyola Marymount and Seattle Pacific Sunday morning on the Snake River in Pullman, Wash., in its first official 2k race of the season. The regatta, originally scheduled as a home event on Silver Lake, was relocated to the Snake River due to lingering weather conditions on the Zags home course.

"It was a great way to start the spring season, and we had solid racing from the team," head women's rowing coach Marisa Wortman said. "The second varsity eight did an especially good job of executing their race plan. We are excited to keep getting faster."

Gonzaga's second varsity eight shined in Sunday's regatta, taking second with a time of 6:57.1 less than five seconds behind Oregon State's winning time of 6:52.7. The Bulldogs took third in the varsity eight (6:56.1), varsity four (7:42.08) and second varsity four (8:20.67). The Bulldogs finished ahead of WCC foe Loyola Marymount in every race on the day.

Gonzaga returns to the water April 6th and 7th at the San Diego Crew Classic, hosted by San Diego on Mission Bay.
