Marks second-straight season the Bulldogs have competed in the regatta

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team heads south this weekend for the annual San Diego Crew Classic, April 6 and 7 at Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif. The Bulldogs are entering three boats (varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four) in the regatta.
"This is a great weekend to see teams from every conference," head women's rowing coach Marisa Wortman said. "Saturday morning will be a fun opportunity to race in competitive heats and get our boats in the best finals possible."
The varsity eight boat kicks things off for the Zags on Saturday morning at 9:12 a.m. in the Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational, racing against Washington, Stanford, UCLA, Tennessee and SDSU in the second heat. The second varsity eight follows soon after at 9:44 a.m. in the Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy; it is joined by California, Washington State, Loyola Marymount, San Diego and Santa Clara.
In the final race on Saturday for the Bulldogs, the varsity four is set in heat one of the 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup against California, UCLA, Sacramento State and San Diego at 10:08 a.m.
Sunday's schedule will depend on the outcome of Gonzaga's races on Saturday.

- The San Diego Crew Classic has matured into the largest regatta in the world held for primarily eight-oared rowing shells.
- Today, it is a two-day, nationally acclaimed regatta, consisting of over 100 races with more than 4000 athletes. The San Diego Crew Classic is America's Premier Spring Regatta.

ZAGS HISTORY AT SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC
- The Bulldogs last competed at the event in 2018, placing three boats in the petite finals. The Zags Varsity 8 boat took runner-up in the Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational, just three seconds behind Stanford at 7:08.246, beating boats from Tennessee, Sacramento State, Kansas State and San Diego State. The Zags finished eighth overall. The second varsity 8 finished runner-up as well, and the varsity four boat took third
- In 2016, placing three boats in the grand finals. The varsity four finished runner-up with the varsity eight taking sixth. GU's open eight boat finished fourth.
- In 2014, the varsity eight and second varsity eight both took first in the petite final. The V8 beat Miami and had the fifth-fastest time on the final day. The 2V8 beat Iowa with the fastest time of the day. The varsity four finished runner-up to Texas in the petite final.
- In 2012, the varsity eight took third in the petite final and took first in the third final in 2004.
- The Zags' top boat made the grand final in 2003, taking sixth.
- In 2002 the V8 took sixth in the grand final and took fifth in 2001.
