Zags place first in both races Sunday

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's rowing team claimed two first-place finishes in the final day of the UCSD Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The Zags secured wins over UCSD and USD on the final day of the regatta.

"I'm really pleased with how both the varsity eight and the second varsity eight raced today," head men's rowing coach Dan Gehn said. "It was nice to get a win and do it well."

In the first race of the day, Gonzaga's varsity eight defeated both UCSD and USD with a time of 6:07.32. USD finished second (6:10.60) while USD finished third with a time of 6:16.37. The Zags also picked up a win in the second varsity eights, defeating UCSD by nearly a second.

Gonzaga's third varsity eight was unable to compete due to an injury sustained during the second varsity eight race.

"There was a bit of bad luck for the 3V with them not racing because of an injury sustained in the JV," Gehn said. "We had to fill a set from their boat."

Gonzaga concludes its time at the UCSD Invitational; the Bulldogs return to the water April 27th at the WIRA Championships in Folsom, Calif.
