Zags welcome 15 teams for the 10th annual event in Oregon
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's golf team welcomes 16 teams to the 10th annual Bandon Dunes Championship Sunday through Tuesday.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on the Bandon Dunes Golf Course. This is the third time that the course will host the tournament, first since 2015. The tournament rotates between four courses each year. The par-72 course plays 6,945 yards.
This year's field includes Boise State (65), Denver, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, North Carolina State (57), Cal State Northridge, Ohio State (53), Oregon (33), Oregon State (57), San Jose State (59), SMU (10), UNC-Wilmington (81), USC Upstate, Utah (72), Utah Valley and Washington State; Golfstat relative rankings top-100 schools listed in parenthesis.
In their last tournament, the Zags were at the Loyola Intercollegiate where the team tied for eighth (+13). Charlie Magruder led the Zags posting 217 (+1), tied for 17th, in the 54-hole tournament. Arizona State cruised to the team title posting 28-under (824), 13 strokes ahead of second place team, Clemson. Chun An Yu of Arizona State won the individual title at 13-under (200).
Last season, the Bulldogs finished in seventh at the Bandon Dunes Championship, which was played on the Pacific Dunes Course. Ben DuBois led the Zags with a 22nd place finish at one-over (214). Gonzaga had a team total of 855 (+3) in the tournament.
Magruder, Matthew Ruel, Chris Mogg, Holden Backes and Nick Nolan will represent the Zags at this year's tournament. Tyler Munetake, Brentt Salas, Grant Johnson and Cam Nicklos will be playing as individuals.
"We're excited to get back down to Bandon Dunes," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "The course is a true links style of golf where you play the ball on the ground around the greens rather than in the air, like we do. It's hard to believe that we're going into our 10th year hosting the event and it's been rewarding to see how it's grown in popularity."
Live scoring will be available all three-days of the tournament on GoZags.com with links to GolfStat.com.
