Varsity 8 records fastest time of spring in petite final

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team completed its second and final day at the San Diego Crew Classic, collecting multiple wins against crews from the Big 12 and WCC.

"It was great to see the team improve over the weekend," head women's rowing coach Marisa Wortman said. "Racing on Sunday was a good example of learning from our race experience. We were able to beat teams in the Big 12 as well as crews in our conference."

The Zags' varsity eight shined on the day, posting a spring-best time of 6:54.805 just two seconds back from Stanford's winning time of 6:52.805. The Bulldogs defeated Oklahoma, Tennessee and San Diego State in the Varsity 8 Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational Petite Final.

The Bulldogs' second varsity eight finished fourth with a time of 7:07.176, defeating both Tennessee and Loyola Marymount in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy Petite Final. Gonzaga's varsity four placed fifth, defeating Tennessee in the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup Petite Final with a time of 7:43.233.

Gonzaga returns to the water next weekend at the Lake Notoma Invitational April 6 and 7 in Gold River, Calif.
