DENVER – Gonzaga women's tennis ran into a tough opponent on Sunday at Denver in a 6-1 loss on the road.
GU (1-1) collected one doubles win and one singles win on the day, while Denver took home the doubles point and five of six singles matches.
In doubles, GU's No. 2 pair of
Vlada Medvedcova and
Kate Ketels got off to a good start with a 6-3 win, but the Pioneers won at No. 1 and No. 3 to clinch the point.
In singles, freshman
Jenna Sloan backed up her win yesterday with another against Denver at the No. 6 spot. She earned a late break point to win the first set 7-5 and then finished off the match with a 6-4 second set for the win.
Gonzaga will take part in the ITA Kick-off Weekend at UCLA on Friday and Saturday. The Zags will face Loyola Marymount in a non-conference matchup on Friday at 4 p.m., and then take on UCLA or Minnesota on Saturday depending on the results of Friday's matches.
