Piercy runs third-fastest 3K in women’s history
SEATTLE – Gonzaga's James Mwaura ran the second-fastest indoor 3,000-meter time in school history on the second day of the UW Invitational inside the Dempsey Center Saturday.
Â
Mwaura crossed the line at 7:59.09, placing ninth overall in the event. Troy Fraley set the program record in the Dempsey Center in 2016 at 7:57.16. Mwaura became just the second Zag ever to run a sub-eight-minute 3K. He placed in his heat and was the fifth-fastest collegian.
Â
Cullen McEachern ran a 10-second personal record, crossing the line at 8:12.89, which ranks seventh on the GU all-time list. McEachern was second in his heat, followed closely by Ben Hogan, who was third with a time of 8:13.50. Hogan's five-second personal record is No. 9 in program history. Evan Bates (8:20.32) and Luke Mason (8:22.13) rounded out the Bulldog finishes.
Â
"Ultimately, this was one of the greatest trips to Dempsey in Zag history," Director of GU Track Pat Tyson said. "10 for 10 this weekend! Love the fight by the guys!"
