SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's tennis team swept visiting Whitworth 7-0 to open the 2021 season on Saturday inside the Stevens Center.
"It was awesome to finally get to compete and do what we love," Head Coach
Jonas Piibor said.
The Zags opened the day with a sweep in doubles play, as Sasha Trkujla and
Matthew Hollingworth teamed up for a 6-2 victory over Whitworth's Ethan Violette and Cameron Brewer. The Zags two remaining doubles swept Whitworth, as
Pablo Gomez Galvan and
Leon Roider along with
Hunter Egger and
Matthew Perkins recorded 6-0 victories in doubles play.
In singles play, Gonzaga swept the Pirates on four of six courts for the 7-0 sweep.
"I'm proud of the guys for putting in solid work leading up to this match, and I think we executed well," Piibor said. "A big thanks to everyone within our university who are working so hard for us to be able to train and compete safely."
