SPOKANE, Wash.-- The Gonzaga men's tennis team won their match against Utah State 4-3 on Saturday. With the win, the Bulldogs remain undefeated and improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Bulldogs started the match strong, as
Leon Roider and
Sasha Trkulja teamed up to run past Roko Savin and Souf El Mesbahi 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Soon after,
Matthew Hollingworth and
Theo McDonald clinched the doubles point at No. 1, coming back from a 5-3 deficit to win the set 7-5. While the Zags had already won the doubles point,
Hunter Egger and
Matthew Perkins played out their match at No. 3 and took a win 6-5 (7-3) to secure the sweep in doubles play against Utah State (1-1).

"I really felt great about us going into this match and getting the doubles point made it a lot easier" said Head Coach
Jonas Piibor. "I thought the men played with tremendous energy."

In singles play, Trkulja was the first to finish defeating Utah State's Savin at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

"I thought we all competed well and had lots of great energy, Trkulja said. "I thought the team made sure that everyone was heard."

GU dropped the next two matches at No. 2 and No. 5, tying the match 2-2. Egger was fourth to finish, beating Keanu Rigby 6-1, 7-6 (6-3) at No. 6 to give the Bulldogs the advantage. The match came down to
Oliver Andersson who went into tie break his last set and came up on top winning 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) against El Mesbahi to clinch the win, 4-3.

"Utah State is a good team, and we knew it would be a very tough match for us," Piibor said."We will continue to improve, as we still have a lot to improve on, but I am really excited to get back to work with these guys on Monday."
