Women’s Soccer Wins Third Straight, 3-0 at San Diego

Zags move to 2-0 in West Coast Conference play

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Gonzaga Women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 road win at San Diego Saturday.
 
The Zags (4-1-0, 2-0-0 West Coast Conference) won their third straight game, and have outscored their opponents 7-1 during the three-game streak.
 
With only four minutes left in the first half, Maggie Conners assisted Sydni Burrup in a goal she was able to tap past the keeper. It was Burrup's first collegiate goal and Conners' second assist of the season.
 
The Bulldogs' next goal came early in the second half, at the 50-minute mark when Erin Healy, assisted by Kate Doyle, scored off a corner kick. In the 70th minute, Maddie Cooley passed the ball to Doyle who was in the box and shot to the lower right of the ner to get the Zags their third goal of the game.
 
San Diego (1-3-0, 1-1-0 WCC) had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks, but GU outshot the Toreros, 20-13, in the game. The Zags took 12 shots in the first half. Gonzaga had an 11-7 edge in shots on goal.
 
Gonzaga's goalkeeper Lyza Bosselmann played for 83 minutes and had four saves. Kayla Thompson came in for the final seven minutes and had two saves. San Diego's goalkeeper Ellyn Casto played for 72 minutes with seven saves.
 
The Bulldogs remain on the road for their next scheduled contest at San Francisco Tuesday at 1 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
