The Zags outshot the Tommies 16-8 in the first-ever matchup

SPOKANE, Wash. – In the first meeting between the two teams, Gonzaga defeated St. Thomas, 2-0, to improve to 3-2-0 on the year. The win marks the third-straight shutout for the Zags and the first victory at Luger Field this season.

The Bulldogs started dominating the game early on with a shot on goal from sophomore Leon Sitz in just the third minute of regulation. Junior Demitrius Kigeya continued the pressure for the Zags, attempting shots on goal in the 10th and 19th minute.

In the 39th minute, GU had a goal called off due to being offsides. That was the closest chance to a score for either team, as the half ended at 0-0.

In the second half, Gonzaga got on the board quickly with a goal from freshman Logan Dorsey with an assist from Kigeya in the 52nd minute. The goal is Dorsey's second of the season and Kigeya's first assist.

The Zags extended their lead in the 86th minute with a goal from senior Noah Bushey from beyond the box. The score was assisted by freshman Jorge Aspas, his first of his career as a Zag.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Johan Garibay recorded two saves in his third-straight shutout for GU. In the last three games, the Stockton, Calif., native has faced 10 shots on goal as Gonzaga's opponents have taken 43 shots overall with no goals allowed by the Bulldogs.

The Zags were also dominate throughout the whole contest, outshooting the Tommies 16-8 with eight of those being on goal.

SERIES HISTORY
Gonzaga moves to 1-0 overall against St. Thomas (0-6-0). This year marks the first Division I season for the Tommies as the university just transitioned from Division III to Division I.
