SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's soccer stretched their unbeaten streak to a program record nine matches after a 3-0 victory over Loyola Marymount Wednesday.
The Bulldogs (8-2-4, 3-0-2 West Coast Conference) also remained unbeaten in league play after
Marissa Garcia scored a pair of goals in the win. GU moved into a tie with BYU for second place in the conference standings with four games remaining in the regular season, including at BYU Saturday. The Zags' four remaining regular season matches are against the other four teams in the top half of the current WCC standings.
Garcia's first goal came just three minutes into the match.
Lauren Elwer made a pass to
Kate Doyle, who one-touched a cross into the box where Garcia kicked in her fourth goal of the season.
In the 61
st minute, Garcia dribbled around the LMU (3-4-6, 1-3-0 WCC) keeper before striking in her second goal of the night. Doyle and
Erin Healy both were credited with assists. Doyle now has a team-high six assists this season.
The Bulldogs'
Maddie Kemp scored her third goal of the season in the 86
th minute. She moved into a tie for 10
th all-time with her 14
th career goal, and ninth with 38
th career point.
Paige Alexander and
Giana Riley were credited with assists.
Gonzaga outshot the Lions 16-4, with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Zags also took all eight corner kicks in the match. GU dominated the flow of the game, possessing the ball for 60 percent of the match.
The Zags' matchup with BYU (7-2-5, 3-0-2) is scheduled for a 6 p.m. Pacific start time Saturday. The game will be broadcast on BYUtv, with live video and stats available on GoZags.com.
