THE TIPOFF
- The Gonzaga women's basketball continues West Coast Conference play this Thursday, Dec. 28 at Pepperdine. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. in the Firestone Fieldhouse.
- GU is coming off the holiday break as the team last played on Dec. 21 against Montana. The Zags won 82-67 as five Bulldogs scored in double figures. Brynna Maxwell led the way with 23 points. Kaylynne Truong (18), Yvonne Ejim (15), Eliza Hollingsworth (13) and McKayla Williams (11) also had double digit performances for Gonzaga. This is the second time this season that GU had five players score in double figures as it also happened on Nov. 12 versus Southern Utah.
- The Zags have four players currently averaging double digits in the first 14 games of the season, including Yvonne Ejim (16), Kaylynne Truong (15.2), Brynna Maxwell (14.8), and Eliza Hollingsworth (10.7).
- The Bulldogs are currently shooting at a program record 80.3 percent from the free throw line, which also ranks third in the country and first in the West Coast Conference. Brynna Maxwell leads the team individually with 97.6 percent, which is first in the nation
- Brynna Maxwell has made a three-pointer in every game so far this season. Maxwell is shooting 53.3 percent from the three-point line to rank first in the country.
- As a team, the Bulldogs are shooting 40.2 percent from beyond the arc, which is currently ranked fifth in the nation and first in the WCC.
- Gonzaga is currently on a five-game winning streak as the team goes on its first WCC roadtrip of the season. This marks the first time on the road for the Zags since Dec. 4 when they played No. 2 Stanford.
- The Bulldogs were picked to win the West Coast Conference. The Zags received nine first-place votes that and totaled 81 points in the poll. The poll is voted on by the league's 10 head coaches, and coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team. Portland received one first-place votes and was selected to finish second with 71 points, while BYU was voted to finish third with 55 points.
- Gonzaga has amassed a conference record of 257-33 (.886) during the last 17 seasons, which includes 16 West Coast Conference regular-season titles and nine WCC Tournament championships.
- Seniors Kayleigh Truong, Kaylynne Truong and junior Yvonne Ejim were also named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. Ejim is the reigning WCC Sixth Woman of the Year while also receiving All-WCC Second Team in 2021-22. Kayleigh Truong earned All-WCC First Team honors after her performance in 2021-22. Kaylynne Truong was named to the WCC Tournament team along with the Rainbow Wahine Showdown MVP as she was ranked third on the team in scoring last year.
- Last season, the Zags advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year under head coach Lisa Fortier.

LAST MEETING: The Bulldogs went 2-0 against Pepperdine last year. The second game of the year was an 85-41 victory for Gonzaga.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
- Pepperdine ranks top five in two categories in the WCC. The Waves are ranked second in rebounds per game (40.6) and third in blocks per game (3.2).
- The Waves have been led by sophomore Ally Stedman who averages 16.5 points per game, ranking her third in scoring on the WCC leaderboard. She also is ranked second in steals per game (1.9) and 14th in assists per game (2.6).
- Theresa Grace Mbanefo is the second-leading scorer on the squad averaging 12.8 points per game, which is good for 14th in the WCC. Mbanefo ranks third in the WCC in shooting percentage at 55.0%. She also ranks eighth in blocks per game (0.9) and 12th in rebounds per game (5.9).
- Marly Walls leads Pepperdine in assists and ranks fourth in the WCC averaging 4.7 per game. She averages 1.8 steals per game which is good for fourth in the WCC. Walls is averaging 10.8 points per game.
- Meaali'i Amosa leads the Waves in rebounds with 6.5 and ranks ninth on the WCC leaderboard. Amosa averages 5.9 per game.
- The Waves bring back eight returners and add six newcomers to the team. The returners include a redshirt senior (Obinma), two juniors (Carson and Jane Nwaba), a redshirt junior (Isabel Montoya), three sophomores (Amosa, Helena Friend and Stedman) and redshirt sophomore (Rosemary Odebumni). New to Malibu are graduate student transfers Theresa Grace Mbanefo and Marly Walls, and four true freshmen in KK Brodie, Drea Brumfield, Hailey Hoff and Hailey Johnson.
