The Zags open up WCC play tomorrow at San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Gonzaga men's tennis team had a close match at San Diego State, but came out on top 4-3. The Zags now improve to 7-1 overall going into West Coast Conference play tomorrow at San Diego.
In doubles, No. 1 and No. 2 fell for the Zags to give SDSU the opening point. Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth teamed up in the first position and fell 6-3. In the second spot, Leon Roider and Oliver Andersson competed together, but also fell 6-3.
Going into the singles play down, 1-0, the Bulldogs rallied to win it all. Andersson clinched the win for the Zags on court three in a three-set battle against Victor Castro. In the first set, Andersson fell 3-6. He then came back in the second set and won 6-3. In the final set to win the whole match, Andersson came out on top, 6-1.
Hollingworth was the first Zag off the court in singles competition with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot against Johannes Seeman. Trkulja was the next one off as he fell 6-2 in both sets on court number one versus Joe Tyler.
The next GU player that finished was Arthus De La Bassetiere as he won 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 4 position against Alexander Mandma. Tom Hann finished next on court No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jules Auffrey. Roider was the second to last Zag to complete his match on court six as he fell 6-2, 7-5, to Judson Blair.
