SPOKANE, Wash. -- Earlier today, the Gonzaga women's tennis team had a home match against Portland University and won 5-2. With today being their last game of the season, the Zags honored their seniors, Vlada Medvedcova and Frederikke Svarre, before the match.
Today's doubles competition opened with Gonzaga's Cate Broerman and Kianna Oda earning a perfect 6-0 victory over Portland's Iva Zelic and Angela Schuster on court two. In the No.3 spot, the doubles point was clinched for Gonzaga when Adrianna Sosnowska and Tiegan Aitken defeated Portland's Aleks Dimitrijevic and Jana Tanevska 6-3.
Gonzaga's Frederikke Svarre and Jenna Sloan's match against Portland's Sally Pethybridge and Rimona Rouf went unfinished, as Gonzaga had already clinched the doubles point.
Following the doubles competition, Gonzaga maintained their dominance as the singles competition began. After taking the first set 6-0, Gonzaga earned their second team point when Broerman's court one match against Zelic was retired. In the No.2 spot, Pethybridge helped Portland earn their first team point of the day when she claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sloan.
In a competitive court six match, Gonzaga extended their lead when Aitken earned a comeback 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 victory over Schuster. In her final match, senior Frederikke Svarre clinched the victory for Gonzaga when she defeated Dimitrijevic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on court four.
Although Gonzaga had already clinched the team victory, all other ongoing matches were finished to completion. In the No.3 spot, Rouf earned Portland their second team point of the day when she claimed a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Sosnowska. The match was complete after Oda earned a competitive 7-6, 6-1, 7-6 win over Tanevska on court five.
Up next: Following the completion of today's match against Portland, the Gonzaga women's tennis team have completed their season, as they did not qualify for the WCC Tournament.
