SPOKANE, Wash. – Maddie Kemp scored a goal and recorded an assist in a 3-0 win for Gonzaga women's soccer over CSU Bakersfield Thursday.
The Bulldogs (1-1-2) picked up their first victory of the season in shutout fashion. GU held CSU Bakersfield to one shot on goal, while taking seven on the offensive end. Gonzaga outshot the Roadrunners 16-8 and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Giana Riley scored her first collegiate goal in the 21
st minute off a cross from
Maddie Kemp. Riley headed in Kemp's seventh career assist.
Kemp scored her 12
th career goal in the 53
rd minute.
Willow Collins played a ball in the box off a corner kick and Kemp headed it in.
With only six second remaining in regulation,
Sophia Braun converted a penalty kick from the late foul in the CSUB box. It was Braun's sixth career goal.
Both teams took five shots in the first half and the possession was even at 50 percent.
Riley took four shots in the match, with two on frame. Braun and Kemp both had two shots on goal as well. Hollee Hercik made four saves for Bakersfield (1-3-0). Bosselmann made one save in the GU net.
The Zags welcome Texas (2-1-1) for the first time Sunday at 1 p.m. The Longhorns, which are receiving votes in the national poll, finished in a 1-1 draw at Oregon Thursday. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
