SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's soccer scored a pair of goals in the first half en route to a 3-0 shutout win over Cal Poly at Luger Field Thursday.
The Bulldogs (2-2-2) outshot Cal Poly 18-10, with a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Mustangs had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Erin Healy scored her third goal of the season, and the third in the last four games, in the 24th minute. She kicked in a loose ball from
Maddie Kemp for her 18
th career goal, which moves her to fifth all-time at GU. Kemp was credited with her fourth assist of the season, and ninth in her career.
Four minutes later,
Kelsey Oyler drove a ball long down the field,
Giana Riley brought it in and then struck it into the Cal Poly (2-4-0) net. Riley now has two goals early in her freshman season.
The Zags outshot the Mustangs 10-4 in the opening 45 minutes, forcing Cal Poly's Mackenzie Samuel into three saves.
Sophia Braun scored her sixth career goal in the 66
th minute. After a foul in the box, she capitalized on the penalty kick to finish the scoring.
Riley finished with a game-high four shots and three shots on frame in just 45 minutes. Both of Oyler's shots were on goal in the match. GU was able to play 21 Bulldogs during the victory.
Samuel ended with six saves, while
Lyza Bosselmann made three saves for Gonzaga.
The Zags welcome Baylor (2-3-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bears fell at West Coast Conference member San Francisco Thursday, 3-1. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
