THE TIPOFF
- The Gonzaga women's basketball team has its season home opener this Sunday, Nov. 12 against Toledo. This game marks the first one against the Rockets in program history.Going into the season, the Bulldogs are receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches Poll.
GU is coming off an overtime loss at No. 24 Washington State from Thursday, Nov. 9. Including a buzzer beater to send the game into overtime, Kaylynne Truong led the team with 22 points. Yvonne Ejim was right behind her with 18 points. Kayleigh Truong rounded out double figure scoring for the Zags with 13.
- Four Zags are currently averaging double digits in scoring including Kaylynne Truong (20.5), Yvonne Ejim (17.5), Kayleigh Truong (12) and Eliza Hollingsworth (11).
- Kaylynne Truong was one of 20 point guards in the country named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list. Brynna Maxwell was also one of 20 shooting guards in the country named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list.
- Yvonne Ejim, Brynna Maxwell and Kaylynne Truong were named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Becky Hammon Player of the Year Award. Gonzaga is the only team with multiple players on the watch list and becomes the first team to ever place three players on a single list.
- Lisa Fortier was recently named to the 2024 Kathy Delaney-Smith Coach of the Year Award preseason watch list. This year's watch list includes coaches from 16 conferences.
- The Bulldogs were picked to win the West Coast Conference. The Zags received eight first-place votes that and totaled 64 points in the poll.
- Gonzaga has amassed a conference record of 274-34 (.889) during the last 18 seasons, which includes 17 West Coast Conference regular-seaason titles and nine WCC Tournament championships.
- Graduate students Brynna Maxwell, Kayleigh Truong, Kaylynne Truong and senior Yvonne Ejim were named to the Preseason All-WCC Team.
- The Zags won the West Coast Conference Regular Season Title for the 18th time in program history by going 17-1 in conference play last season.
- The Bulldogs ended the season with three players averaging double digits including Yvonne Ejim (16.8), Kaylynne Truong (15.8), Brynna Maxwell (13.5). All three return to GU this year.
- Last season, GU had a record breaking performance from the three point line. The team recorded a program record 40.5 shooting percentage, which led the country.
- Brynna Maxwell made a three-pointer in every regular season game last year and shot at 48.1 percent on the year to lead the nation for the majority of the season.
- Last season, Gonzaga advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth-straight year under Lisa Fortier.
SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
- The Rockets are coming off a 60-49 win over James Madison on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
- Toledo was picked to win its third-straight Mid-American Conference title in the annual preseason coaches poll, while Quinesha Lockett was named to the Preseason First-Team All-MAC squad, and Sophia Wiard and Sammi Mikonowicz were both named to the second team.
- Toledo trailed JMU by 21 points early in the second half but flipped the script entirely and outscored the Dukes 24-10 in the third quarter to make it a 43-37 game. Nan Garcia tied the game at 43-43 with back-to-back three-pointers to begin the fourth quarter and, following two James Madison free throws, Quinesha Lockett knocked down a three to give Toledo its first lead of the game at 46-45 with 4:32 to go. From that point on, the Rockets never trailed. They ended the game on a 9-0 run to improbably win by double-digits and kick off its 2023-24 season in style.
- Sophia Wiard ranks eighth all-time in school history with 468 career assists. She has more career assists than any current MAC player and she ranks 10th among active Division I players in career assists.

During the women's basketball game on Nov. 12 against Toledo, the Zags will wear customized turquoise uniforms created by Nike. The turquoise color is symbolic of friendship.
