Gonzaga Adds Creighton Transfer Ryan Nembhard

Canadian native rated ESPN’s top guard transfer

SPOKANE, Wash. – Ryan Nembhard, a transfer from Creighton, signed a financial aid agreement to attend Gonzaga University and joins the men's basketball team for the 2023-24 season.
 
Nembhard, a 6-0, 170-pound guard, ranked No. 2 in ESPN's transfer portal ratings. He started 64 games the past two seasons for Creighton, averaging 12.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists this past season and 11.3 points and 4.4 assists as a freshman. Ryan is the younger brother of former Zag star, Andrew Nembhard, who is now flourishing with the Indiana Pacers.
 
The Aurora, Ont., native, was crucial in the Bluejays' run to the Elite Eight this season, including finishing with a career-high 30 points and four three-pointers in a second-round NCAA tournament win over Baylor. He also had 25 points and five assists in a win over Arkansas in the Maui Invitational in November.
 
During his two seasons at Creighton, Nembhard had 35 games with five or more assists, while scoring in double-digits 41 times. He was named the Big East Conference Freshman of the Week six times in 2021-22, before earning the conference's Freshman of the Year honor. This past season he was Second Team Preseason All-Big East, before earning Maui Jim Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team honors, along with being named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List.
 
Nembhard was a four-star recruit out of Montverde Academy, where he helped the Eagles defeat Sunrise Christian Academy 62–52 to win the 2021 GEICO High School Basketball Nationals. He finished with 12 points, and seven assists and won game MVP honors. Montverde went 20-3 his sophomore year, 25-0 as a junior and 24-1 as a senior.
 
Nembhard guided Canada to a bronze medal at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Latvia in 2021, averaging 15.1 points, 6.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in seven games. He was the only player in the tournament to post multiple point/assist double-doubles, as he had 21 points and 10 assists in the bronze medal game vs. Serbia. He had 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists in semifinal round game versus the United States. At the FIBA U16 Americas Championship in Brazil in 2019, he averaged 14.3 points and led tourney with nine assists per game and had 21 points and nine assists in the Gold Medal Game against the United States.
