TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Gonzaga men's tennis team wrapped up day one of competition at the Wildcat Invite with singles and doubles wins across the board.
Sasha Trkulja and
Matthew Hollingworth are seeded No. 1 in their bracket and opened up with a 7-5 win over New Mexico. They will play Norrthern Arizona tomorrow at 8 a.m.Â
Leon Roider and
Pablo Gomez Galvan teamed up in doubles and opened up with a bye in the first round. In the second, the duo defeated Arthur Bellegy (New Mexico) and Henrik Lynum (New Mexico State), 6-4. They will play the No. 1 seed from Arizona at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
In the same bracket,
Tom Dunlop and
Gus Krauel had a bye in the first round as well. They went on to play UNLV and fell 6-4. The duo will play again tomorrow at 8 a.m.
In singles action, Dunlop defeated the No. 1 seed in his bracket, Avery Tallakson from New Mexico, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. He's set to compete against Lance Urlaub tomrrow at 8:45 a.m.
Trkulja is playing as the No. 1 seed in his bracket and won 6-7, 7-6, 7-5, against Georgio Samaha from New Mexico. Trkulja is set to play at 8:45 a.m. in the second round tomorrow against Anton Ornberg from UNLV.
Hollingworth competed against Dominik Buzonics from Northern Arizona and fell 6-3 in both sets. He is also set to compete again tomorrow at 8:45 a.m.
In Roider's bracket, he won 6-1 in both sets against Tobias Wallin from New Mexico State. He will play at 10:15 a.m. tomorrow against Arthur Bellegy.Â
Gomez Galvan won his singles match against Aaron Bailey from UNLV, 6-2, 6-4. He will play Ryoma Matsushita from New Mexico at 10:15 a.m. tomorrow.
Krauel also competed in the open singles bracket and won his first match against Vassanth Mathan, 6-4, 7-5. Krauel then fell to Taiyo Hirano, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round.Â
