SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's soccer won its fifth game of the season shutting out Utah Tech 3-0 in the final game of the 2023 Gonzaga Tournament at Luger Field Sunday.
The Bulldogs' (5-1-0)
Kate Doyle continued her streak of scoring a goal in each game this season and remained atop the West Coast Conference in total goals.
Doyle opened the game's scoring less than 30 seconds into the match, sliding a shot past the Trailblazers' keeper. Doyle's seventh goal of the season was off a lengthy assist from
Marissa Garcia. Doyle moves into a tie for seventh all-time at GU with 16 career goals.
In the fourth minute, Doyle crossed a ball into the box that was headed into the net by
Giana Riley. It was Riley's sixth goal of the season, which ranks second in the WCC, and the 11
th of her career. Doyle rose to eighth in program history with her 44
th career point.
Kylie Jones scored her first collegiate goal in the 80
th minute.
Katelyn Rigg was credited with her first collegiate assist.
Gonzaga controlled the game, with 66 percent of the possession, and 64 percent of the possession on the attacking side of the pitch. The Zags outshot Utah Tech 22-8, with a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal. GU took all eight corner kicks in the match as well.
Brianna Frey made 12 saves for the Trailblazers (2-3-1), while
Lauren Towne had three in the Bulldogs' net.
Montana defeated Oklahoma, 1-0, in the third game of the Gonzaga Tournament prior to the Gonzaga and Utah Tech matchup.
The Zags visit Cal Poly (1-1-1) Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN Plus, with live stats on GoZags.com.
