In the first spring competition of the year, the Gonzaga men's rowing team competed against Oregon State, UC San Diego and Santa Clara at the OSU Duals. Due to weather delays on Saturday, races that didn't get run on Saturday were run early on Sunday and finished up the regular schedule later in the morning.

"This was a great early season event for us," head coach Dan Gehn said. "Getting down the race course three times in one weekend is really helpful."

In the first day of racing, the Zags had four boats compete. In the Varsity 8 boat, GU finished third with a time of 6:44.4, ahead of Santa Clara's time of 6:57.

The 2V8 boat finished second with a time of 6:25.4, just slightly behind OSU's winning time of 6:23.2. In the 3V8 race, the Zags took second with a time of 6:33.4, in between Oregon State and Santa Clara. Wrapping up the first day of races was the 4V8 crew, which finished second with a time of 6:33.4 as they raced against OSU's 4V8 and 5V8 boats.

"The coaching staff was pleased with our performance for a first race," Gehn said. "Other than Saturday's conditions it was valuable to get three races against like opponents."

In the second day, GU had two more rounds of races. In the morning, the 1V8 boat took second with a finishing time of 6:07.5, behind OSU's 6:03.6 time. The 2V8 crew also raced against OSU again and finished second in 6:16.6 as the Beavers finished in 6:11.9. 

The 3V8 boat competed against OSU and Santa Clara and finished second with a time of 7:05.7. The 4V8 boat also competed against Oregon State's 4V8 and 5V8 boats again and placed second with a time of 6:37.1. 

The Zags closed out races with some afternoon competition. In the 1V8 race, the Zags placed first with a time of 6:09.5 over Santa Clara. In the 2V8 competition, the Bulldogs took first with a time of 6:14.0, ahead of Santa Clara's 6:23.2. The 3V8 crew placed second behind SCU with a time of 6:27.3, right behind Santa Clara's 6:26.7. In the 4V8 race, GU finished second with a time of 6:26.9, in between OSU's 4V8 and 5V8 boats.
