CORVALLIS, Ore. – On a clear spring evening in front of a nearly sold-out crowd of 3,528 at Goss Stadium and Coleman Field, No. 5 Oregon State's bats came alive in a 14-0 win over Gonzaga on Monday. The Beavers scattered 13 hits while holding the Zags to just four.
Miles Gosztola started strong on the mound for Gonzaga (7-17), striking out seven Oregon State (22-4) batters through the first three innings despite surrendering a pair of runs in the third. The Beavers were able to chase Gosztola in the fourth while tacking on another run to make it 3-0.
Gonzaga was able to put a runner on third base in the second, third, and fourth innings, but some flashy defense and a timely strikeout from the Oregon State defense thwarted the attack to keep the Bulldogs off the board.
The Beaver bats picked up in the fifth and sixth, plating nine total runs on seven hits to blow the game open with a 12-0 lead. A two-spot in the eighth thanks to Travis Bazzana's Pac-12-leading 16th home run rounded out the scoring as Oregon State's bullpen held Gonzaga to just one hit over the final four frames.
