SANTA CLARA, Calif. – This afternoon, the Gonzaga women's tennis team concluded their season by playing an away match against Santa Clara and dropped a heart breaker match, 4-3.
 
In doubles, Santa Clara clinched the doubles point as both courts one and two won, 7-5. Emily Robertson and Ella Nielsen were up 6-0 on court two before the doubles point was clinched for the Broncos.
 
Santa Clara extended its lead to 2-0 when Velizara Fileva defeated Nielsen, 6-0, 6-1. Gonzaga got on the scoreboard next with a win on court six from Caroline Wernli in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
 
The Zags tied up the match at 2-2 when Kianna Oda won on court two over Finely Kalinic, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5). Santa Clara took the lead back with another battle on court four as Tiegen Aitken fell to Gabriela Tevez, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
 
With the match at 3-2, Santa Clara clinched the win with a three set battle on court one with JennaMarie Gordon and Emily Robertson. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Robertosn came back to tie it with a 6-4 second set. The third set went in favor of Gordon with a score of 6-2.
 
Brooke Bittner closed out the match and rallied on court five to claim a win over Varya Zlotnik, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6).
 
Up Next: Today's match closes the regular season for the Gonzaga women's tennis team. The Bulldogs' 2024 fall tournament schedule will be released later this summer.
