Men's Soccer Wins Over Northwest, 4-1

The Zags recorded 22 shots in the season opener
SPOKANE, Wash. – In the regular season opener, the Gonzaga Bulldogs men's soccer team came out victorious with a 4-1 win over Northwest.
In the 15th minute, Jelle Van Deijck got the Zags on the board first with a goal. Victor Gadea shot the ball first and Van Deijck scored off the defection to give GU the lead.
The Zags controlled most of the first half by outshooting the Eagles 8-3, as Stefano Campisi had three by himself. Gadea and Van Deijck had two each as well.
Going into halftime up 1-0, the Bulldogs added to their lead quickly as Chris Swider scored 34 seconds into the second half to make it 2-0. V Van Deijck passed the ball from outside the box into Ben Augee who quickly tapped it to Swider who found the back of the net.
Six minutes later, Swider scored again with another assist coming from Van Deijck, to give GU the 3-0 lead with the majority of the second half still remaining.
The Eagles scored in the 62nd minute with a goal from Brayden Corwin in the top left of the goal with the assist coming from Elliot Misic.
Gonzaga increased its lead in the 76th minute when Geremi Onentia drew a foul inside the box. Drew Pedersen took the shot for the Bulldogs and made it 4-1.
Overall, GU outshot the Eagles 22-5 as Swider led the way with five shots and two of those on the goal. Campisi and Talan Rochelle also recorded four shots each in the opening game. Gonzaga had six shots on goal, compared to Northwest's two.
The Zags had possession of the ball for 64% of the game and also had the advantage in corner kicks, 10-3.
