SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's soccer team topped No. 9 ranked Seattle, 2-1, on Thursday night on the road. This is the first ranked win since 2019 and the first top 10 win since 2007 for the Zags.
The first half was scoreless for both teams as GU took two shots compared to Seattle's 10. Chema Preciado recorded four saves in the first 45 minutes to keep it scoreless.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in the 65th minute as Alex Bazia scored his third goal of the season to make it 1-0 for the Zags. The Redhawks responded four minutes later with an unassisted goal from Edgar Leon to tie it at 1-1.
Ben Augee scored the game winning goal in the 80th minute with assists coming from Bazia and Damoni Mckenna-Greenawalt. This marked Augee's second goal of the season as he gave GU the 2-1 lead.
Gonzaga secured the win by playing exceptional defense in the last 10 minutes of regulation to earn its first win over Seattle since 2016.
Overall, GU had six shots with four of those on goal. Alex Bazia led the way with two shots, both on goal, as Damoni Mckenna-Greenawalt, Drew Pedersen, Ben Augee and Jake Goehring also all recorded one shot.
Chema Preciado had four saves for Gonzaga as Seattle took 24 shots total. The Bulldogs had possession for 44% of the match and drew one corner kick on the night.
