The Zags secure their first conference win of the year

STOCKTON, Calif. — Gonzaga University (4-6-3, 1-3-2) secured a 2-0 victory over the University of the Pacific (3-11-0, 1-5-0) with two second-half goals at Knoles Field on Saturday night.

The first half began with the Bulldogs establishing an offensive rhythm early, as Morgan Olson registered two shots within the opening 12 minutes. The visiting team continued to press, with Ethan Doud and Alex Bazia each attempting shots, though they were unable to find the back of the net. Pacific's goalkeeper, Mateus Ruiz-Hurst, made crucial saves to deny Bazia and Ian Silva, keeping the scoreline level.

Despite a series of fouls, GU's defense held firm, limiting Pacific's opportunities and maintaining a clean sheet through the half. The period concluded with the score tied at 0-0, as both teams entered the break without having broken through on the scoreboard.

The second half was pivotal as the Zags capitalized on scoring opportunities. In the 68th minute, Robbie Mora found the back of the net with an assist from Farhan Moustafa, breaking the deadlock. Gonzaga doubled their advantage in the 74th minute when Drew Pedersen scored with help from Bazia. Despite pressure from Pacific, including several shots and corner kicks, Gonzaga's defense held firm, with Chema Preciado making crucial saves. The period concluded with Gonzaga leading 2-0, maintaining their upper hand as the match ended.

Preciado was pivotal in goal, recording a shutout with two saves in the match. Pedersen found the back of the net, scoring once on two shots, both of which were on target. Mora contributed the game-winning goal, tallying one goal from two shots. Moustafa added an assist while taking one shot during the game.

The Zags stand at 4-6-3 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play after their recent victory. Pacific's record falls to 3-11-0 overall and 1-5-0 in conference competition.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will host Saint Mary's on November 1 at Luger Field in Spokane, Wash. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. as Gonzaga continues its home stretch.
