SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's cross country team placed second at the 2025 West Coast Conference Championships Saturday, led by a runner-up individual finish from
Logan Hofstee. The Bulldog men captured third to finish a successful day at the first event ever ran at The Course Spokane Valley .
Logan Schwartz led the GU men with a fourth-place finish and earned the WCC Men's Freshman of the Year honors. He crossed the line at 23:34.8. This was a personal best for Schwartz.
Hofstee's 19:46.8 finish led a trio of First Team All-Conference finishes for Gonzaga.
Jessica Frydenlund (20:17.3) and
Willow Collins (20:29.1) were also first team with fifth and seven place finishes.
Nina Yeats was second team in 12
th at 20:46.4. Yeats and Hofstee both set personal bests with their respective times, and Hofstee solidified her hold on the fourth fastest 6k in program history with her performance.
Hofstee had a huge kick down the final mile to pass Washington State's Zenah Cheptoo to secure her second place finish. The Zags had a great run from all five scoring members, working out of the peloton and passing several opponents in the middle section of the race to establish their placing. The Zags fell short of the conference championship by only five points, an indication of the incredibly close margins that ultimately decided the back and forth run.
On the men's side, Schwartz was the lone Zag on the league's first team, while
Bryce Cerkowniak (23:46.1),
Samy Anderson (23:51.6), and
Mason Kissell (23:52.1) were second team in 11
th, 13
th and 14
th. The Zags finished less than ten points behind the defending champion Portland Pilots, a team that GU has already beaten twice this season. Anderson and Kissell also ran career best times, and
Ryan Mitchell rounded out the scoring with a career best time of 23:52.9
Washington State swept the women's and men's conference titles. Rosemary Longisa won the women's 6K race at 19:35.0, and Solomon Kipchoge's 22:32.6 finish won the men's 8K race.
The Zags will look to get one back on the Cougs when they face off at the NCAA Western Regional Championship. The NCAA West will be decided on November 15th in Sacremento. The top two teams in the West will be guaranteed a bid to the NCAA National Cross Country Championship.
