SPOKANE, Wash- Gonzaga Cross Country will be represented in the NCAA Cross Country National Championship by
Logan Hofstee and
Jessica Frydenlund on Saturday, marking the third straight year that women's cross country has had a runner in the national championship.
Hofstee, a sophomore from Spokane Valley, holds the 3rd fastest 6k time in Gonzaga program history, setting her PR last week at the NCAA West Regionals by running 19:36.7. She secured second overall at the WCC Championship on November 1st with a time of 19:45.8, beating Washington State's Zenah Cheptoo, who is ranked in the top 50 individual runners by FloTrack, by almost 15 seconds while setting a then-personal best time. A two time First Team All-WCC honoree, Hofstee is an excellent distance runner and was an All-American honorable mention in the 10k last track season.
Frydenlund, a Junior from Anacortes, holds the 5th fastest 6k time in Zag history, setting her PR at the Lakefront Invitational in Chicago as the top GU finisher. Gonzaga took third at that race, beating 3 currently nationally ranked teams in Washington, Boston College, and Wisconsin. Frydenlund is familair with the national stage, having qualified for the national semifinals in the 10k in Track & Field last season. She has qualified for the NCAA Quarterfinals in the 3k steeplechase in two straight seasons and currently holds the second fastest steeplechase time in Zag history. A three time First Team All-WCC honoree, Frydenlund will be competing in her second NCAA Cross Country Championship after the women's team qualified and took 25th overall last year.
Frydenlund and Hofstee competed against each other in high school before joining the same team, taking first and second at the Washington 2A State Championship while running as opponents. Now they will work together as teammates as they represent Gonzaga in the National Championship.
The NCAA Cross Country National Championship will be broadcast on ESPNU on Saturday starting at 7 am pacific time. The start time for the women's 6k championship is currently slated for 7:20 am.
