SPOKANE, Wash- Gonzaga Volleyball (14-13, 7-9) closed out the home slate of games by dropping Saturday's match to Portland (14-14, 9-8) in straight sets.
Portland captured the first two sets by identical scores of 25-19 before securing the win in the third 25-20. Portland hit a very efficient .358 on the night while putting up ten aces.
Autumn Larson fittingly began the game with an ace after her pregame senior day ceremony. Larson had four aces in the first set and the Zags had six total aces as a team in the frame. Despite the good service game, Portland's 15 kills and .448% in the first frame were too much for Gonzaga to overcome.
The Pilots took the second thanks to continued efficient hitting, as Elin Larsson and Lucia Busso both had 7 kills on hitting percentages of over .540 through the first two sets. Portland's Larsson and Maui Robbins ended the match with 11 kills each to lead the game.
Gonzaga was also unable to sustain any success in the third frame thanks to UP putting together a great serve that kept the Zags out of rhythm. Portland ended the match with 10 aces.
Gonzaga Volleyball will finish the season on the road, taking on the top two teams in the conference when they face Pepperdine and San Diego on Wednesday and Saturday next week.
