Women’s Tennis Dusts Seattle, 4-0

Zags (7-4) cap off unscathed weekend

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's tennis cruised to a 4-0 victory over Seattle on Sunday at the Stevens Center.

The Bulldogs and Redhawks split the first two doubles matches as Rose Hayes/Lia Espinal fell 6-1 and Emily Robertson/Ella Nielsen triumphed 6-2. All eyes turned to court three, where Norhan Hesham/Safien Boulonois were knotted 4-4 with their opponents. The Zags pairing took the next two games to claim the doubles point.

As the dual moved to singles, Nielsen picked up another point for the home team, double-bageling her challenger 6-0, 6-0. The Zags clinched the overall match with hard-fought wins by their top two singles positions. Robertson prevailed 6-4, 6-3 then Hesham rallied 6-4, 7-5.

When the dual ended, three singles bouts were stopped — Hayes (6-3, 5-6), Boulonois (4-6, 6-3, 2-3), and Espinal (5-7, 2-5).

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs travel to Tampa, Florida over spring break, facing Liberty (March 11) and South Florida (March 12). GU opens WCC play with a home dual against Washington State (March 22). For those unable to attend, live video and stats will be available at GoZags.com.

MATCH NOTES
- GU women's tennis is now 7-4 this dual season, with other wins over Michigan State, Eastern Washington, New Mexico State, New Mexico, Air Force, and Montana.
- This is two straight victories after snapping a three-dual losing streak for the Bulldogs, who opened the season 5-1.
- Gonzaga is 5-1 at Stevens Center, with the lone defeat coming to Washington on Feb. 9.
- The Zags picked up their second straight sweep, their first two 4-0 victories of the season.
- Seattle is now 1-7 this season, beating Portland State 4-3 on Feb. 22.
- The Redhawks lost 4-3 in Spokane on Saturday to Montana, who Gonzaga beat 4-0 on Friday.
