WTEN Shuts Out Portland State, 4-0

Zags (10-8, 2-2) conclude WCC play next weekend

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga women's tennis swept Portland State 4-0 in a non-conference dual on Saturday at the Stevens Center.

Since the Vikings (5-9 overall) had only five competitors, the Bulldogs (10-8) needed to win just one doubles match to claim the opening point. Rose Hayes/Lia Espinal left no doubt, bageling their opponent 6-0, while Emily Robertson/Ella Nielsen led 5-3 when the dual moved to singles.

Down a player, Portland had to forfeit a singles point, giving Gonzaga a 2-0 advantage in the score column. Robertson was dominant in her 6-2, 6-1 victory then Safien Boulonois clinched the overall match, cruising 6-1, 6-4.

The dual ended with Nielsen, Norhan Hesham, and Hayes leading in their second sets, with the latter two surviving first-frame tiebreakers.

UP NEXT: Gonzaga women's tennis closes out the WCC regular season with a home match against Santa Clara on Friday (April 18) and a road dual against Portland on Saturday (April 19).

On April 18, the Zags will recognize Norhan Hesham and Lia Espinal for Senior Day. For those unable to attend, live video and stats will be available at GoZags.com.
