WTEN Finishes Regular Season with 4-1 Defeat at Portland

Zags (11-9, 3-3) will compete in the WCC Tournament next week

PORTLAND, Ore. – After claiming the doubles point on Saturday, Gonzaga women's tennis (11-9 overall, 3-3 WCC) fell 4-1 in the regular season finale at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

Gonzaga — fresh off clinching a WCC Tournament appearance with yesterday's home victory over Santa Clara — dropped the opening doubles match as Emily Robertson/Ella Nielsen were defeated 6-1. Norhan Hesham/Safien Boulonois cruised 6-2, and then Rose Hayes/Lia Espinal survived a tiebreaker to get the Zags on the board first.

The Pilots (9-9 overall, 4-4 WCC) bounced back in singles on their home courts, where they are 8-1 this season. Portland beat Espinal (6-0, 6-2), Hesham (6-2, 6-3), and Nielsen (6-2, 7-5) in straight sets then outlasted Robertson in a third-set tiebreaker to clinch the overall match. Boulonois and Hayes both led 3-2 in their final frames when the dual ended.
