Zags come up short in four sets against Pacific

MORAGA, Calif.- Gonzaga Volleyball (1-1) fell to Pacific (1-1) in four sets on Saturday. Pacific captured the two sets 25-21 and 25-23 before the Zags rallied to take the third frame 25-22. The Tigers then responded by taking the fourth set 25-19 to capture the contest.
Megan Deveaux led the game with 17 kills, hitting for a .467 hitting percentage and continuing to be a key part of the offense as a freshman. Claire Wagstaff had another 12 kills, while Dani Clewis had a double-double with 12 digs and 19 assists. Nia Damuni added another 22 assists for the Zags, moving four assists away from passing Heather Joseph for the third most career assists for any GU player in current scoring.
The Zags had 14 service errors in the game, giving away extra points to the Tigers despite hitting for a .239 attack percentage. The Bulldogs nearly won a back and forth second set that featured 12 ties and four lead changes, but a late rally from the Tigers resulted in a two set advantage for Pacific. GU leaned on strong defense in the third, holding Pacific to a -.030 hitting percentage to get a set back. Pacific took the fourth set behind a balanced attack that saw six different players record a kill en route to securing the win.
Gonzaga will return to the court on Sunday, taking on UC San Diego at 2pm on a neutral court hosted by California.
