Biography
Gonzaga University- Heffelfinger set a career best in the 3000 Steeplechase in the 2018 San Francisco State Distance Carnival meet with a winning time of 8:56.9, which qualified him for NCAA West Regionals. He would crack the 9:00 minute steeplechase barrier 3 times during the 2018 season and have personal bests in the 5000 met4ers (14:41.67) and 1500 meters (3:56.54).
High School- Heffelfinger was a two-time New Mexico State Cross Country champion in his junior and senior seasons. At the 2015 State Meet he ran a personal best of 16:01.4 over the 5,000-meter course at altitude. On the track, he won state championships in the 800 meter, 1600 meter, and 3200 meter distances. His high school bests were 1:57.54, 4:24.16, and 9:32.80 in those distances.
Personal- Heffelfinger’s mother, Candace Calhoun, ran cross country and track for Cornell University. Alex was named the EMHS Student-Athlete of the Year in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years.
