Student Athlete Exam Proctoring (Updated 11/12/2025)
Gonzaga student-athletes occasionally miss exams and quizzes while traveling for competition.   Faculty are free to address these missed assessments at their own discretion. When faculty are unable or unwilling to proctor make-up exams themselves, the Registrar’s Office is available to facilitate a make-up assessment in a secure environment. The Registrar’s Office will only proctor in person exams. Remote proctoring is not available.

Information for Faculty Members
  • Student-athletes are responsible for communicating with faculty members regarding their absences due to team travel and competition. You can help by working with them to identify the most appropriate time and place for making up missed assessments.
  • If you are able to handle make-up exams and quizzes yourself, please continue to do so. This service is offered to help faculty who are unable to facilitate make-up assessments on their own.  It is not intended to change what most faculty have been doing in this regard.
  • Student-athletes with disability accommodations related to testing will continue to utilize the services of the university’s Academic Testing Center.
  • Once a student-athlete reaches out to the Registrar’s Office to facilitate a proctoring situation, the Registrar’s Office will reach out to you to gather more information about the testing situation (e.g. time allotted, resources allowed, return instructions), along with collecting any necessary materials.
Information for Student-Athletes
  • Student-athletes are responsible for communicating with faculty members regarding their absences due to team travel and competition. If an athletically-related absence requires you to miss a scheduled exam or quiz, you should work with your faculty member well in advance of the scheduled absence to identify the most appropriate time and place for making up the missed assessment.
  • Student-athletes with disability accommodations related to testing should continue to utilize the services of the university’s Academic Testing Center.
  • If your course instructor is able to accommodate the make-up exam or quiz him/herself (e.g., in office hours), please go that route.  If not, you may ask your instructor about taking the exam with the Registrar’s Office, as described below.
  • Step 1: Try to work with the course instructor to schedule a make-up exam.
  • Step 2: If you are unable to schedule a make-up exam with your instructor, please fill out the Student Proctoring Request Form. Requests for proctoring should be made at least 48 hours prior when the exam is occurring.
  • Step 3: The Registrar’s Office will contact the student-athlete and the faculty member to acquire specific details and schedule a time for the quiz or exam to be proctored, and then reach out to the student-athlete with information about how the proctoring process will occur including where to meet and what to bring.
In alignment with Gonzaga University, the athletic department and all student-athletes are committed to supporting and protecting academic integrity in all aspects of what we do. We aim to educate and monitor this in conjunction with the University’s Academic Integrity Policy. This policy can be found at: www.gonzaga.edu/academicintegrity.
