Academic Support
Academic Advising

Academic Services works collaboratively with primary faculty advisors to ensure that all student-athletes are fulfilling graduation requirements and meeting all NCAA academic eligibility benchmarks. We provide academic support for all student-athletes throughout their time at Gonzaga. Athletic academic advisors serve in multiple ways including weekly meetings to help student-athletes stay on track in classes, creation of four- or five-year degree plans, and guidance throughout the class registration process to ensure class times are around practices and team travel, all while pursuing classes towards their intended major.

To find a comprehensive list and curriculum for all majors, please visit the University Catalog.

Academic Monitoring

Grade reports and academic progress reports are collected for student-athletes throughout each semester. These reports provide an opportunity for early intervention and support when academic difficulties arise. Academic Services continuously monitors academic reports to ensure student-athletes are completing their academic coursework and maintaining NCAA academic eligibility benchmarks.

All freshmen student-athletes meet weekly with an athletic academic advisor throughout their first semester. In addition, the academic services staff meets with other student-athletes needing additional support and help during his or her time at Gonzaga.

Tutorial Services

The Gonzaga Athletics Peer Tutorial Program provides student-athletes with one-on-one weekly, educational support in order to succeed in their coursework and develop the skills of a successful student. Student-athletes and tutors develop a close working relationship by meeting each week to complete tasks and set new academic goals. Tutors are Gonzaga undergraduate and graduate students with strong academic knowledge, a clear and friendly communication style and a desire to help student-athletes perform their best.

For more information, please visit the Peer Tutorial Services page or contact Academic Coordinator, Colette Yamaoka at yamaoka@gonzaga.edu.

Academic Integrity

Academic Integrity is of the utmost importance to Gonzaga University and the Athletic Department. In 2018, the University instituted a new Academic Integrity Policy for all students. At the beginning of each new school year, student-athletes are asked to complete an assessment on the policy to help educate and ensure knowledge of the expectations and rules of the University.

Testing Coordinator for Athletics

In order to maintain the highest level of academic integrity, our department partners with a designated faculty member to provide free assessment monitoring services for students who miss an assessment due to team travel. This faculty member works with student-athletes and their professors to provide assessment monitoring in a secure environment.

For more information, please contact Dr. Peggy Sue Loroz, Faculty Athletics Representative at loroz@gonzaga.edu or Steffany Galbraith, Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services at galbraith@gonzaga.edu.
