Amy Edwards enters her eighth season at Gonzaga University and continues to strive to rise to the top of the ranks in the powerhouse West Coast Conference and guide the Zags back to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
 
In her seven seasons as head coach, Edwards has become the second winningest coach in Gonzaga history.
 
In 2014, Edwards led GU to its first winning season since 2007. The Bulldogs posted a 4-4-1 record in West Coast Conference play, arguably one of the toughest women's soccer leagues in the country. The Zags spent four of the last five weeks of the season in the NSCAA West Regional poll. They finished in the top 100 in two national ranking services. Gonzaga earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award for the sixth-consecutive season after posting a 3.43 grade point average.
 
She led the Zags to a 7-11-1 season in 2013, scoring 21 goals and 58 points along the way. The Zags scored wins over Oregon State, UC Riverside, Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount, among others, over the course of the season. Five of their victories came in shutouts, with the Zags shutting out Oregon State and Eastern Oregon in consecutive matches.
 
The Bulldogs opened the 2012 campaign winning five of their first six matches, including a 4-match win streak that is the second longest since the 2005 season when they strung together seven-straight. The year, which ended with an 8-11-1 overall mark, also saw Gonzaga tie perennial powerhouse University of Portland 1-1 in double-overtime. The tie was the first non-loss to the Pilots, who won the NCAA College Cup in 2002 and 2005, in 21 matches.
 
The 2011 season saw Edwards and the Zags finish with a 7-10-2 record, with six of Gonzaga's seven victories coming as shutouts.
 
The Bulldogs put its most impressive run together in 2010, her second year at the helm, as they were contenders for a spot in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships. They also had a strong performance in WCC play. Before the season opened, the Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh by the WCC coaches and under Edwards leadership, they proved the coaches wrong. Gonzaga earned three league victories and finished fourth in the standings, tying the highest result in the program's 20-year history.
 
When Edwards took the reins of the Bulldogs, her goal was to increase the team's aggressiveness on the attack. In her first year at the helm, the Bulldogs recorded 245 shots, one year later they set a program record of 272 attempts. The past two seasons the Zags again broke the 200-shot plateau with 201 and 262 shots, respectively.
 
Edwards served on the University of Missouri coaching staff from 2004 until her hiring at Gonzaga. Having been promoted to associate head coach in 2007, she helped build the Tigers into an annual NCAA Tournament contender. During her tenure of five seasons, Missouri compiled a 57-40-7 overall record and a 23-25-2 in Big 12 Conference action.
 
Following her promotion to associate head coach, Missouri had enjoyed much success. The Tigers won the Big 12 Conference Tournament in 2008 which gave the Tigers back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths for the first time in program history. Mizzou earned an at-large invite in 2007, and claimed the Big 12's automatic berth with its Big 12 Championship in 2008.
 
Edwards helped produce a Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, 34 All-Big 12 Academic honorees, 12 All-Big 12 members, five All-Big 12 Tournament team members and six regional All-Americans.
 
While coaching the Tigers, Edwards served as an integral part of the Missouri Olympic Development Program from 2004-09.
 
Prior to joining the Tiger staff, Edwards was head coach at the University of Tulsa and an assistant coach at University of Notre Dame, Fresno State University and Tulsa.
 
While at Notre Dame (1999-03), the Irish compiled a 74-16-2 record, made two College Cup appearances and claimed three consecutive Big East Conference titles from 1999-01.
 
Edwards was head coach of her alma mater Tulsa from 1995-99. Under her direction, the Golden Hurricane recorded a 47-25-6 record and had six student-athletes named to the regional All-America team. In three years of Western Athletic Conference competition, Edwards coached 14 all-conference players, 12 conference all-academic recipients and five all-tournament student-athletes.
 
As a youth soccer coach in Tulsa from 1992-99, Edwards was one of many that began the growth of soccer in town. Additionally, she served as a staff coach with the Region III Olympic Development program with the United States Youth Soccer Association from 1995-98. She worked as an ODP staff coach with Oklahoma Soccer Association from 1991-98.
 
Edwards, a native of Broken Arrow, Okla., was a four-year starter at Tulsa from 1988-92 serving as team captain all four seasons. She earned All-America honors as a senior. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Tulsa in 1992 and earned a master's degree in education from Tulsa in 1997. She is currently pursuing a master's of education degree from the University of Missouri in Positive Coaching.
 
The former Hurricane was inducted into the Tulsa Athletic Hall of Fame in September 2013. She is also a member of the Broken Arrow High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
 
Edwards holds a United States Soccer Federation 'B' License and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Advanced Diploma.
 
She is also co-author of two books: Soccer Team Notebook and Pitch Notes Soccer Journal. Both were written with Richard Kent and focus on providing reflective activities that can ultimately optimize a team's and athlete's performance.
