Women's Basketball Falls To Boise State 69-56

BOISE, Idaho - Gonzaga University dropped its first women?s basketball game of the new millennium 69-56 to Boise State University on Wednesday night.

The Zags trailed by just one point, 37-36, at halftime but managed only 20 second half points on 6-of-35 shooting from the field (17.1 percent).

Sophomore Jessica Malone led Gonzaga with 16 points while hitting 4-of-9 3-point attempts. Malone, who reached double figures in scoring for the eighth consecutive game, also grabbed eight rebounds. Senior post Sydney Perno was the only other Bulldog to score in double digits with 14 points. Kristin Deal led all players with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Boise State was paced by Stephanie Block?s 18 points and nine rebounds. Block, as her name implies, stuffed three Bulldog shots on the evening to raise her season total to 40 blocks. Abby Vaughan also tallied 18 points, all from beyond the arc on 6-of-11 shooting.

As a team Gonzaga shot just 29.6 percent from the field for the game while BSU connected on 42.1 percent of its shots including a scorching 40 percent from 3-point range.

The Zags out rebounded the Broncos 50-44.

Gonzaga will continue its Idaho swing with a game this Saturday against the University of Idaho. Game-time is set for 4 p.m. PST
